If you are like me and have the tendency to look like a spastic squid when you dance, it is always a thrill to watch other people dance, especially when they actually have a proper relationship with rhythm. Most of the time we are relegated to watching So You Think You Can Dance in our bedrooms, mentally practicing the moves and failing even in our dreams, but once every year we have the opportunity to take the front seat as others fill us with a mixture of envy and admiration.
The Glow 2013 competition, organized and hosted by the Trent University Dance Team, will soon be upon us. The event is happening Friday. March 1 and there is a lot to look forward to. The competition involves dance crews from in and around Peterborough who get together to promote hip-hop culture. I caught up with Judenne Roache, a member of Black Snow, the second runner up in last year’s competition, and she gave me the inside scoop on what to expect from this years competition.
“This year we’re coming harder and stronger and trust me when I say you’ve never seen a group of ‘bad girls’ til you’ve seen Black Snow tear up the stage. Last year we had so much fun competing and had never expected to come in second, but the energy from the audience made us want to hit hard and come stronger. In return, the energy from the dancers made the audience want to join in.”
Roache adds, “We have some new sponsors this year which means some great freebie for the audience. This event is the highlight of the year and this time it looks like it’s going to be bigger and better than ever before. I am so excited to see the results of everyone’s hard work.”
I am now seriously amped up for Glow 2013. Tickets cost five dollars and the event begins at 10:00 p.m. Arrive before 11:30 p.m. or purchase the pre-sale tickets and you stand a chance to win some awesome prizes. On March 1, put away your So You Think You Can Dance box set and join us at The Venue for the real thing.
