Thinking of finally making that practical investment in Microsoft Office? Stop right there! Microsoft has announced that as of December 1, it will be making its Office 365 ProPlus suite available for free to students at universities that license Office Education for their faculty and staff – which, just recently, became the case at Trent.
When asked for confirmation that Trent students will indeed soon be able to get their grubby mitts on a free copy of the office software suite, an IT department spokesperson replied that they are “currently in contact with Microsoft working on logistics and eligibility [and] hope to be able to announce something in the near future.”
Despite many quality rival products, some of them also free, Microsoft Office remains the de facto office software standard in educational institutes and most workplaces. An Office 365 ProPlus license will grant you access to the full suite of programs on up to five devices, including mobile devices. The programs will include Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote, as well as the lesser-used Outlook, Access, Publisher and Lync.
