Pop Songs of Summer 2013

Summer is filled with fun times and memorable tunes.  Many of us put together summer playlists, filled with songs we play repeatedly.

Standing as the number one hottest song of the summer is “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke featuring T.I. and Pharrell Williams. The song stayed at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for twelve consecutive weeks, holding the title as the longest running number one hit of 2013.

This summer was also the album release of one of the hottest new bands, Emblem3.  Nothing to Lose came out on July 30 and grabbed the attention of many music lovers. The recent X Factor  contestants departed from the show, standing in forth place and soon after signed with Simon Cowell’s record label, Syco Records.

According to billboard.com, Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise” stayed at number one on the Billboard’s Hot Country Songs for twenty-two consecutive weeks, setting an all-time record for a song remaining at number one.  In April 2013, the Nelly remix of “Cruise” was released and as the summer approached it gained more popularity, selling over 1.6 million copies as of July 2013.

“Red Hands” by Canadian indie rock group, Walk Off The Earth, became more popular in Peterborough since the band came and performed at our very own Del Crary Park on July 17.
