Men’s Rugby

Trent Men’s Rugby team will be advancing to the OCAA Semi-Finals after a 21-15 win over Georgian to take their Quarter final show down. The season has been a bag of mixed results for the Excalibur with a .500 record in the regular season they won three games and lost three as well.
In the Semi-Finals they will be facing Algonquin, who has yet to lose, and defeated Trent earlier in the season 32-7. After a strong win against Georgian there is no reason to believe that Algonquin will be facing the same calibre of squad they trampled in the second game of Trent’s season. The game will be November 9 at 2pm Twin Elm Rugby Park, which is in Ottawa. Results are forthcoming on trentarthur.ca.
Men’s Lacrosse

The Men’s Lacrosse game faced a due or die game against Queens last Saturday and came up short 11-8 just missing the players with Queens advancing. The Excalibur had a solid season finishing the year with a 4-6 record.
Even though they didn’t make the playoffs this year the future is bright for the green and white on the lacrosse field as only 3 of their players are graduating this academic year.
“As much as the loss is still fresh and we hate losing, the future looks very bright for Trent Lacrosse, we have a lot of young guys that have amazing potential, and some strong recruits already for next season,” said Geoff McKinnely.
Among the positives is that the team had 6 of the league’s top rookie scorers. Their highest rookie scorer Cole McWilliams, who came 2nd only behind another Peterborough native Nick Weiss is excited for the upcoming years.
“Obviously we would have liked to been in the playoffs, but we got a good group of guys for here and that will be in the mix again next season.”
Women’s Lacrosse

In just their first year competing in Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Championships, the Trent Excalibur Women’s Lacrosse Team finished in seventh place overall, with two team members being named to the OUA First Team All-Stars.
Trent started on bad footing, with a loss to the Guelph Gryphons 19-9 in their first game of the weekend. Despite the loss, Leah Ogilvie, Jess Kumka, and Marsha Cryderman were able to score two goals each.
Their second game also ended in a loss, though it was much closer—only 10-7 to the Toronto Varsity Blues. Ogilvie again lead the scoring for Trent, putting away three of her four goals in the second half.
This feat was matched by the Varsity Blues’ Larissa Boychuk with three second-half goals that proved to be too much.
Not to go 0-3 in the tournament, the Excalibur topped the McMaster Marauders 12-9 in their last game to earn them the respectable seventh place finish. Leah Ogilvie scored five of Trent’s 12 goals. Despite a seven goal rally by the Marauders in the second half, Trent’s own seven goal rally in the first pushed the game too far out of reach.
Ogilvie’s high-scoring performances awarded her a spot on the OUA Team One All-Stars. Midfielder Marsha Cryderman was also awarded a spot on the list.
Excalibur team member Miranda Bagshaw comments “[the team is] like one big happy family. … We’re looking forward to next season, recruiting more players, and building on this amazing team.”
