The event took place on October 3. Abdullah started the discussion by asking everyone what feminism means to them. People then spoke about how feminism can shape change and what sort of change it can make. The main topics of discussion included: Islam’s roots in equality, misconceptions of Islam, misconceptions of feminism, gender roles, and feminism in an Islamic context. Issues such as Muslim garments and Quebec’s proposed charter of values were also examined.
The Trent Muslim Student Association will be having a discussion every month. Everyone is welcome! Please check their Facebook page for more information.
