The Trent University school term is coming to a close, and the holiday season is upon us. As regular as the changing of the stars, the radio season on Trent Radio 92.7 FM will be wrapping up on Friday, December 6 at noon.
All our regular programmers and shows will be taking a break until Monday, January 6, 2014. The very same shows will be returning in January, and we will welcome them back with open ears.
Every year, student programmers come up to me and say, “Ahhhh! I planned my show for the first semester and didn’t remember there would be a second semester and now my show doesn’t work!”
First, I correct them—at Trent, we have terms, not semesters.
Next, I explain to them that the they are in the same situation as several other programmers, and that in January, I play a shell-game of sorts with the programmers whose class schedules no longer work for their radio programmes.
All that shuffling of programmes creates some new opportunities for getting involved as well, so if you don’t have a programme on Trent Radio yet, and you are interested in getting one, just let me know.
Between going off the air and getting back on again is the “Entre Season”.
What is the Entre Season, you ask? Well, from Monday, December 9 until Friday, December 20, anyone is welcome to sign up to do a show that explores the depths of any imaginative topic.
The Entre Season is an excellent opportunity for current programmers to take a break from their regular show format, or for those who do not yet have a show to ease themselves into the fun!
Broadcasting, woo!
Have you ever wanted to talk about fish for an hour, or maybe have an in-depth conversation with the ghost of Sir John A. MacDonald, or to randomly call up an ex-boyfriend and publicly embarrass him on-air? The Entre Season is a time for strange programming that normally would not fit into the regular season, or to do something you just wouldn’t want to as a regular show.
It might be fun to air a 12-hour cassette tape series of the footnotes section of Lord of the Rings during the Entre Season, but you wouldn’t want to do it on a weekly basis.
If you’re interested in getting involved in the Entre Season, there will be a sign-up sheet in the hallway of the Trent Radio House (715 George Street North), or you can contact me, James Kerr, directly by e-mail at jkerr@trentradio.ca.
If you’ve never been in Trent Radio House before, then we doubly encourage you to enter.
Also! Every year, the “Good and Country Radio Marathon” takes place in an effort to raise funds and support for Trent Radio because sometimes, we have to remember that money can be useful, even if we are a not-for-profit organization.
The “Good and Country Radio Marathon” is hosted by Barb Holtmann and Stephanie Bolander from the “Good and Country Show” on Saturdays from 8am-12pm, and that’s a lot of country.
Their show features the old, new, and golden oldies and unusual sounds of country music, which means a whole marathon is guaranteed to bring you even more country fun.
This year, the marathon will take place at noon on Friday, December 6 and run a whole 24 hours until noon on Saturday, December 7. So, it starts right as soon as we get off the air, and merrily kicks off the Entre Season.
Gather your friends and family and call in to the show and donate!
So, there is a whole lot going on at Trent Radio between now and Monday, January 6, 2014, when we get back to the regular broadcasting monkey business.
There will be a special Christmas Eve broadcast of the “In From the Cold” concert series as well as some special holiday programming.
Trent Radio wishes you the best for the holiday season, and make sure to tune in to 92.7 FM to hear all sorts of wacky fun.
