Trent Valley Fencing

The Trent Valley Fencing Club was founded in 2013 to continue to legacy of fencing at Trent University after the varsity program was cut.

Fencing is one of the original modern Olympic sports, and excellent exercise in a fun setting. We’ll teach you everything you need to know and supply equipment. At Trent we encourage sportsmanship, athleticism, fun, occasional silliness, dedication and teamwork.

The competitive team attends tournaments from October to March. We compete in the Ontario University Athletics circuit against many other Ontario universities. There are both team and individual competitions. We run a co-ed club with equal opportunities for men and women.

Last season, the team won seven medals and had several other top 10 finishes in both team and individual competition. In the early part of this season we have already earned five medals thanks in part to new fencers.

The Trent Valley Fencing also runs a non-competitive club for students wishing to learn a new skill while working on their fitness. These students participate equally in practices and enjoy the personal challenge of fencing.

There are several opportunities for students at any level of their university career to get involved. There is absolutely no experience required to join or become a competitive member!

We are planning to run some fun on campus events this school year. We run Learn to Fence programs at the beginning to each semester. Our September Learn to Fence program starts September 15 and runs 6-8pm in the Main Gym.

Due to the nature of fencing and the team component there are no formal cuts so all you need is enthusiasm!
