The deadline to apply for all of these positions is September 13 at noon.
6 weekly reporters (with one position being dedicated to sports):
4 TWSP (OSAP recipients). 1 non-TWSP (non-OSAP recipients). 1 TIP (international students).
$10.65/hr for 7.5 hours per week.

You will be responsible for contributing to the newspaper every week. The type of news you will be covering will be negotiated during the interview process, according to both your preferences and strengths. Your articles must be original work, and they must be handed in on time. All reporting tools will be provided as required.

You must be capable of working independently, but you must also be a team player. Regular attendance at story meetings is a must. These meetings are where we review the previous issue, discuss what articles are going in the next issue, and decide which contributors will cover them. You can come to pitch or pick up a story and share ideas with others.

Covering a story may include:
– interviews
– audio/visual/video aids
– persistent attempts at retrieving information
– attendance at events
– developing a list of contacts

Job Requirements:

2 fortnightly reporters (with one position dedicated to science):
1 TWSP. 1 non-TWSP.
$10.65/hr for 7.5 hours every other week.

1 TWSP photographer
$10.65/hr for 5 hours per week.

You will be required to contribute photographs weekly to be printed and distributed throughout campus and downtown, as well as posted online at www.trentarthur.ca. You will photograph events, people, meetings, and other happenings in consultation with the Editors and fellow Reporters. Room for creativity.

You must be capable of working independently, but you must also be a team player. Regular attendance at story meetings is a must. These meetings are where we review the previous issue and discuss the content for the next issue. This is where you can receive ideas for photographs and it gives you an opportunity to collaborate with reporters.

Job Requirements:

– Photographic experience, in freelance, workplace and/or an extracurricular environment
– Ability to meet strict deadlines
– Must maintain clear lines of communication with Editors and Staff as necessary
– Ability to work both independently and follow directions
– Own or have readily available a digital SLR or adequate digital range finder with manual features

Assets:
– Comfort working in a Mac/Apple computer environment
– Experience with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop or other comparable photo-editing software
– Strong design skills

1 TWSP copy-editor:
$10.65/hr for 7.5 hours per week.

You will edit stories submitted by Reporters and Volunteers, and communicate with the writers about their articles and general writing. You will edit stories for grammar, clarity, flow, and overall effectiveness of the article.

You will work with the staff to ensure that all stories are accurate and that authors’ meanings are clearly conveyed. You will do basic fact checking as required, to ensure quality and reliability of material. You will maintain clear lines of communication with Editors and Staff.

Job Requirements:

– Ability to work independently and follow direction
– Excellent writing, spelling and grammar skills
– Ability to communicate and work well with staff and volunteers

Assets:
– Copy editing and/or writing experience
– Experience in teaching/tutoring

1 proofreader (will possibly be TWSP):
$10.65/hr for 5 hours per week.

You will correct all typos and errors in the newspaper text after the newspaper has been laid out. You will maintain clear lines of communication with Editors and Staff.

Job Requirements:

– Excellent writing, spelling and grammar skills
– Ability to work independently and follow direction

Assets:
– Proofreading experience
– Knowledge of Adobe InDesign

1 bookkeeper
Non-TWSP. $10.65/hr for 5 hours per week.

Job Description:

The bookkeeper will work under our business manager’s guidance to do the following:

– maintain the general ledger and financial journals

– administer payroll

– invoice advertising

– do weekly banking

The bookkeeper will also provide any math fact-checking required at the office.

The bookkeeper will eventually be trained to submit GST remittances for the newspaper as a not-for-profit corporation.

Job Requirements:

– background in math

– familiarity with general accounting

– formal experience is an asset, but not required
