It’s once more unto the breach of new school year, but don’t worry—the Trent Queer Collective (TQC) is here to fill your gender and sexuality non-conformist needs!
What is the TQC some of you may ask? Well, it is a student group, also catering to the greater Peterborough community, that provides fun events for and about lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, pansexual, two-spirit, asexual, genderqueer, and other queer identified persons.
Whether you’re looking for new, awesome friends, queer themed events, or just to learn more about all the exciting permutations of gender and sexuality, the TQC offers something for you.
We offer a variety of events throughout the Fall-Winter semesters, including:
Movie nights, taking place in the Sadleir House Lecture Hall every third Wednesday of the month, from 7-9 pm. Snacks are always provided. The first movie night will be held September 19, where we’ll be showcasing Better Than Chocolate, a Canadian lesbian romantic-comedy. Margaret is crashing on the couch at her job when her mother, in the middle of a divorce and a midlife crisis, decides to move to Margaret’s “big apartment”. And of course now is the time Maggie finds herself falling for the sexy, artsy drifter … Warnings for nudity and queer bashing.
Trans*Space, a drop-in group for gender non-conforming individuals held in the Sadleir House Lecture Hall the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, from 5 – 8 pm, starting September 11. Trans*Space exists to provide community and support, though often takes an informal tone as we play board games, cards, or do crafts. Food and drinks are always provided.
Alphabet Soup, our discussion group for all things queer. This is where the TQC can take a more political tone, as the topic may be on a current world issue.
Beers for Queers, which like it says on the tin, is an informal pub night for queers to get together and have a few beers (or whatever tickles your fancy).
The end-of-year Drag and Cabaret Show, held around the end of March, where performers from the community and even beyond can strut their stuff and show off their talents.
Not to mention games nights, potlucks, and more!
